2025 Oscars Predictions:
Best Supporting Actor
Weekly Commentary (Updated July 28, 2024)It's hard to rate any of the supporting categories because we never know which artists will stand out.
What we know so far, at least based on the source material and early publicity, is that Stanley Tucci (“Conclave”) and Samuel L. Jackson (“The Piano Lesson”), two beloved veteran actors, are said to deliver stellar performances in their respective films.
The first trailer for James Mangold's “A Complete Unknown” features three-time Oscar nominee Edward Norton, who could also be in contention for his first Oscar.
The buzz around Ridley Scott's Gladiator sequel continues, with the possibility that lead actor Denzel Washington will be in the film, replacing the supposed supporting role played by Joaquin Phoenix in the 2001 Best Picture winner. If so, that would mean co-stars Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn could be in the mix.
Larger ensembles, like Jason Reitman's “SNL: 1975” and Rammell Ross's “Nickel Boys,” can also put one or two cast members in contention.
There will be a lot to analyze as the race progresses. Sit tight.
