True Colours Picks Up Toronto-Bound ‘U Are the Universe’

Gaetano Maiorino’s Rome-based sales company True Colours has acquired Ukrainian sci-fi comedy-drama “U Are the Universe,” written and directed by Pavlo Ostrykov, which will have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in the Discovery section.

“You Are the Universe” is about Ukrainian space truck driver Andrei Melnyk. After the Earth explodes, he believes he is the last person in the universe until he receives a call from Catherine, a French woman on a distant space station. Despite the obstacles, Andrei decides to find her.

“You Are the Universe” is a story about the last love in the universe. In each of my films, I search for love, because it is the highest human value. It is the best thing in the whole universe. It may be painful, but it usually brings great joy,” Ostryakov said in a statement.

“It’s important for me to tell this story because I see myself in the main character. I’m afraid of giving up on my dreams and being left alone with my problems. This story reminds me of how important it is to find someone who understands you even if you have to travel across the galaxy! Especially in these dark times.”

“We are very proud to represent ‘U Are the Universe’ and join the producers and director on this journey,” said Mayorino, Managing Director and Head of Acquisitions at True Colors. “Pavlo Ostrikov has made a fantastic feature film debut, and we can’t wait to bring this unique and emotional film to our distributors.”

“Passion is the fuel for making films. We have been working on our film for seven years. It is impossible to do it without believing that this film should be made. We are happy that we felt this passion in the True Colors team,” Yatsenko added.

The film is produced by Ukrainians Volodymyr Yatsenko and Anna Yatsenko of Four Films. Volodymyr Yatsenko produced Valentin Vasyanovich Films, who produced Atlantis and Reflection in Venice. The films are co-produced by Anton Iffland Stettner and Eva Kuperman of the Belgian company Stenola.

The cast includes Volodymyr Kravchuk, Leonid Pobadko, Daria Blahty, Alexia Debeker, and Maxim Maksymuk.
