Menendez Brothers Series Gets First Clip


Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennen's new series about the '90s true crime epic premieres on Netflix this month.

The new series from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennen will explore the infamous true crime story of the 1990s, in which brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez shot and killed their parents, Jose and Kitty, at their family home in Beverly Hills. The clip begins with a reenactment of that fateful night, paired with audio from a different scene in which the brothers are encouraged to open up about what happened and reconnect as siblings.

“Eric and I killed our parents together, so I think that makes us very close,” Lyle says in the trailer.

From there, the trailer explores many fascinating angles of the Menendez saga. Most notably, the media hype surrounding the brothers’ trial, which became a sensation when it aired on Court TV, but also Eric and Lyle’s eventual defense of their parents’ murder after years of emotional, physical and sexual abuse.

Nathan Lane portrays Dominic Dwan, who famously covered the story. Vanity Fair In 1990, he presents a potentially dangerous truth at the end of the clip: “Don't kill your parents like that. Literally, tarnish their image. It's not about the money – it's about something deeper and darker.”

Monsters The film stars Nicolas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch as Lyle and Eric, while Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny will play Jose and Kitty. Along with Lane, the main cast also includes Ari Graynor as the brothers' defense attorney, Leslie Abramson.

Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez The series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on September 19.
