BTS Members Jung Kook and RM to Release Dueling Feature Documentaries

BTS members RM and Jung Kook are set to release feature-length documentaries next month.

Directed by Lee Suk-joon and distributed by CJ 4DPLEX, “RM: Right People, Wrong Place” will premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in October.

The film tells the story of production. [RM’s] “He released his second solo album titled ‘Right Place, Wrong Person’ in May. The film adds meaning as a record of BTS leader RM, solo artist RM, and human being Kim Namjoon as a self-exploration while also embodying the sensual cinematography that was well-received in the music video for his solo album, giving the impression of watching an art film,” CJ 4DPLEX said in a statement.

Director Lee was previously involved in producing the music videos for “Arson” and “MORE,” the double track for J-Hope's solo album “Jack in the Box.”

The film will be screened outdoors in Busan (October 2-11) in venues large enough to accommodate the expected crowds. Further information on the screening date has not been finalized.

“It is very important that ‘RM: Right People, Wrong Place’ is the first K-pop documentary to be screened outdoors at the Busan International Film Festival,” said Seo Kye-won, general manager of HYBE Media Studio, which was responsible for producing the film.

Hibi company

Hybe Corp. is also behind “Jung Kook: I Am Still,” a previously announced film that chronicles the artist’s eight-month journey following his historic solo debut with “Seven (feat. Latto)” in July 2023.
Event distributor Trafalgar Releasing plans to release the film on September 18. While the company says the number of screenings is limited, the release will be in 120 countries.

The companies released a trailer for the film ahead of release and say they will support ongoing distribution by offering digital surprises over the course of four weeks, accessible on mobile devices via a QR code at the end of the film’s run. Fans will be able to access a new trailer each week, starting September 18.

Jungkook has become a prominent solo artist. His singles “3D (feat. Jack Harlow)” and “Standing Next to You” reached the top ten, making him the first Korean solo artist to simultaneously have three songs in the top ten of the Billboard HOT 100. His album “Golden” enjoyed a 24-week run on the Billboard 200.

Hybe Entertainment said that “Jung Kook: I Am Still” is the 10th film in the BTS film series it has produced. Films produced by or about BTS have proven popular on both niche and mainstream streaming platforms. Earlier this year, Asian streaming company Rakuten Viki announced a slate of nine BTS films and shows. Disney+ has previously carried five BTS films. In May, Korean joint venture company wA announced a deal with Hybe Entertainment to stream BTS and Seventeen on the U.S. streaming platform KOCOWA+.
