Thirty-six years after the release of Ron Shelton's romantic baseball thriller “Bull Durham,” stars Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon reunite at the 81st annual Venice Film Festival.
“Nothing better than catching up with an old friend. Great to see you,” Costner wrote on his Instagram account on Thursday, where he posted a photo of himself with Sarandon. [Susan Sarandon] We've come a long way since the days of 'Bull Durham'.
Sarandon was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role in the 1988 hit film.

The duo reunited on September 5 for a charity event hosted by the Better World Fund at the Cipriani Hotel in Venice. “This momentous occasion is dedicated to supporting women’s empowerment through art,” the Better World Fund wrote on Instagram, explaining the significance of the night. “With guests of honor Susan Sarandon and Kevin Costner, the historic and elegant setting of the Cipriani Hotel provides the perfect backdrop for this inspiring initiative, promising an unforgettable symphony of art and philanthropy.”
While Sarandon is in Venice as a guest of honor from the Better World Fund, Costner is also in attendance to open the second installment of his expansive Western epic, “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2.” Costner directs the film, which also stars Sienna Miller, Giovanni Ribisi, Sam Worthington, Ella Hunt, Will Patton, Luke Wilson and Kathleen Quinlan.
Costner produced the first two chapters of “Horizon” with his own money. The first part was made for about $100 million, but grossed only $34 million. Although “Chapter 2” will make its Venice debut, its theatrical release date is still up in the air after its Aug. 16 release date was canceled in July.
