Grand Premium
Taiwanese-born film director Ang Lee (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “Life of Pi,” “Brokeback Mountain”) was selected as one of five award recipients. Premium Imperial Japan Art Society Award. The award ceremony will be held in Tokyo on November 19.
Each winner will receive 15 million yen ($104,000) plus a certificate and medal. This year's other winners are: Sophie Kali (Painting, France); Doris Salcedo (sculpture, Colombia); Shigeru Ban (Architecture, Japan); and Maria Joao Peres (Music, Portugal/Switzerland).
The Prix Impériale is the world's largest and most prestigious art award in five fields: painting, sculpture, architecture, music and theatre/film. Now in its 35th year, it gives international recognition to the arts, much as the Nobel Prizes for science do.
Previous winners in the film sector include: Ingmar Berman, Jean-Luc Godard and Kurosawa Akira.

The Spring/Summer 2025 collection was revealed as part of Toei Animation’s year-long celebration of the 25th anniversary of the popular anime series. The animation house described Aoki’s participation as “a transformative moment for anime in the fashion world, where the bold and adventurous spirit of ‘one piece“Compatible with the sophisticated designs of Dim Mak.”
