Harvey Weinstein Indicted on New Sex Crime Charges in New York

Prosecutors said additional charges against the ousted producer will be revealed at a Sept. 18 hearing.

New York City prosecutors announced Thursday new charges against film producer Harvey Weinstein on sex crimes charges.

The grand jury indictment will remain sealed until the disgraced producer is formally indicted on September 18, at which point the exact charges, number of victims and sexual assault allegations will be revealed. Associated Press Reports.

Weinstein did not attend Thursday's hearing, as he is currently hospitalized after undergoing heart surgery earlier this week.

At a hearing in May after Weinstein’s conviction was overturned, prosecutors said they could bring additional charges against him, with Assistant Attorney General Nicole Bloomberg telling the court that “some people who were not willing to speak up in 2020 now seem willing to do so.”

The potential charges — which reportedly stem from allegations made by three additional victims, not the two women who were the basis of the initial New York trial against Weinstein — were presented to a grand jury, which indicted Weinstein on the still-sealed charges.

According to CNN, the judge has not yet decided whether to combine the new charges with a planned retrial against Weinstein after an appeals court overturned his conviction in the first trial in New York; Weinstein remains behind bars on sex crimes charges in Los Angeles.

However, as a result of Weinstein's repeated health problems, a judge ruled Thursday that he can remain in Bellevue Hospital indefinitely instead of the Rikers Island jail complex, where he was previously held following the overturning of the conviction and before the retrial.
