Anna Delvey's choice Dancing with the stars It made a big splash – and that was the pivotal point. In a new interview with diverse, DWTS Executive producer Conrad Green confirmed the showrunners' decision to bring the convicted con man to the show.
“We’ve always tried to be a very broad church when it comes to the types of people and the types of backgrounds and the types of stories that we have on the show,” Green told the outlet. “Anna is fascinating to a lot of people, a lot of people have watched the drama about her life and followed her story, so I think there’s an inherent curiosity about her.”
In the interview, Green said he thought Delvey would “do well as a dancer” given her connection to the “fashion world,” and noted the fact that people were very curious about seeing her on the show.
“I think people really want to see her. She’s an important and interesting part of the cast,” Green said. “Yes, she had her issues, but we have other people on the show who have had criminal cases in their past. She’s served her time.”
“I think it's totally appropriate for her to be on the show, and I think people were really curious to see how she performed,” he added.
Delvey rose to notoriety after her arrest in 2017 for impersonating a wealthy German heiress to defraud wealthy individuals, banks and hotels. She was convicted in 2019 and sentenced to four to 12 years in prison, though she was released in 2021 for good behavior.
Delvey was fighting a legal battle against deportation and living under house arrest. Delvey said the people She received special permission from ICE to compete in the show as long as she kept her ankle bracelet on.

ABC announced the lineup for the show’s 33rd season, which premieres Sept. 17 on the network and Disney+, on Wednesday. This year’s contestants include Tori Spelling, Family matters Star Reginald Phil Johnson, Eric Roberts, reality TV star Phaedra Parks, and Ilona Maher, the American Olympic player who won a bronze medal in rugby this summer.
