Carmen Sandiego Game to Launch on Netflix, Console and PC

Carmen Sandiego will star in a new video game from Gameloft, the company that produced Disney Dreamlight Valley, and HarperCollins Production, which will first launch as a Netflix exclusive title in early 2025 before later rolling out to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and Steam.

The original 1985 game, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, introduced her as the main antagonist, leading a global gang of criminals known as V.I.L.E.

In this installment, players will now wear and play as Carmen Sandiego’s iconic red coat and hat for the first time ever. According to Gameloft, players will experience the thrill of being an infamous super thief as they navigate the world of espionage, use high-tech gadgets, and ultimately capture VILE.

According to the game description, “From the bustling streets of Rio de Janeiro to the picturesque shrines of Tokyo, every corner of the world becomes their playground as they unravel complex adventures and bring VILE’s most elusive criminals to justice. Every decision players make will shape the outcome as they piece together files and race against time to thwart VILE’s evil plans. Whether you play through story-driven campaigns or classic modes, this modern Carmen Sandiego experience promises to wow both new and old fans alike.”

Carmen Sandiego will be a single-player puzzle-adventure game with no in-game purchases or online play. Netflix members on iOS and Android can play the game through the Netflix mobile app.

The Carmen Sandiego series has captivated audiences since the 1980s. In 2019, Carmen returned in the Emmy and Annie Award-winning animated series, Carmen Sandiego, which ran for four seasons. A live-action Carmen Sandiego movie is also in development at Netflix, which will star Gina Rodriguez of Jane the Virgin. The film will be the first major live-action story featuring the world’s greatest thief.

Carmen Sandiego is Gameloft's latest move into cross-platform gaming, following Disney Dreamlight Valley, Disney Speedstorm, and The Oregon Trail, which were also co-produced with HarperCollins Productions.
