Linkin Park Stopped Tonight's show to perform their new single “The Emptiness Machine”. The song marks the rock band's first new music in seven years and features new vocalist Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittan.
The song “The Emptiness Machine,” which was first performed live on late-night TV, will appear on Linkin Park's new album, From scratchThe film is scheduled to be released on November 15.
Earlier this month, Linkin Park began announcing a reunion and new members, as well as an album and world tour. The band kicked off its headlining tour on September 11 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, marking its first round of live shows since the death of frontman Chester Bennington in 2017.
the From scratch The world tour also includes stops in Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul and Bogota, with the musicians heading to Hamburg and London later this month.
At the Los Angeles concert, lead singer Mike Shinoda addressed the crowd, saying, “We’re excited to be back here. It’s not about erasing the past. It’s about starting this new chapter in the future and coming out here for each and every one of you. We loved writing this music. We’re so excited for the new record. So thank you all so much. We had a great night with you.”
on Tonight's showShinoda sat down with host Jimmy Fallon to discuss Linkin Park's plans and future. He noted that the band was “on a 48-hour high” after the Los Angeles performance. “To go through all these years and feel that real adrenaline and excitement and happiness, there's nothing like it, man,” Shinoda told Fallon.
Shinoda also spoke about Bennington's death and what it was like to perform with Linkin Park without him. “I think the important thing for us is that we never planned something like, 'Let's get the band back' or 'Let's find a singer,'” he explained. “That was never our intention or goal.” Instead, the musicians started to get out together and create, which led to the release of the new album.
“When we started music we didn’t have a band, it was just putting music together,” Shinoda said, adding that the album’s title, From scratch“It's a nod to starting from scratch and a reference to the band's original name, Xero. “I think we've finally found the right name for the band,” he joked.
Linkin Park's tour and new album announcement have not gone without criticism. Bennington's son, Jamie, has criticized the band for appointing Armstrong to replace his father after controversy over its ties to the Church of Scientology and actor Danny Masterson, who was convicted of rape last year.
