Every Movie on HBO Max in April 2024

Max is no stranger to offering top-notch entertainment to its viewers and judging by what’s coming on the streaming service next month, April will be no different. As such, there will be plenty for Max subscribers to add to their watchlist. That being said, there’s one film in particular that might be difficult to watch, given its subject matter and apathetic representation of the real-life horrors humans are capable of inflicting on others. Nonetheless, such an abhorrent subject shouldn’t deter potential viewers, given the thought-provoking questions that could arise in response.

With two documentaries heading to the streaming platform along with the entirety of an iconic franchise and a controversial drama, Max certainly has an interesting array of options for its viewers next month. While such offerings won’t necessarily be everyone’s preferred type of film, there’s no denying the quality of each respective movie. Given what Max is bringing to its viewers in April, audiences are sure to find something they deem worth watching.

The Harry Potter Franchise

Stream on April 1

All eight films in the Harry Potter franchise will be available on Max beginning in April. Based on the popular book series by J.K. Rowling, the films chronicle Harrys (Daniel Radcliffe) life at Hogwarts after he discovers he’s a wizard. Known as the “boy who lived” after surviving Voldemort’s (Ralph Fiennes) attack on his family, which killed his mother and father, Harry was raised by his aunt and uncle, who hid him away from the world of magic.

However, on his 11th birthday, he learns the truth after receiving a letter from Hogwarts, a school for magic. Once there, Harry meets his classmates, Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint), and the trio form an unbreakable bond as they navigate their new school and the adventures it presents to them together. As the years progress, Harry and his friends learn more about his past and are ultimately forced to face the looming threat of Voldemort’s return. All eight Harry Potter films are streaming on Max on Apr. 1.

The Zone of Interest

Stream on April 5

The Zone of Interest follows Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel) and his wife Hedwig (Sandra Hüller) as they attempt to live an idyllic life with their children in a home and garden mere feet away from the horrors of Auschwitz during the Nazi’s Final Solution. As an SS officer and commander at the concentration camp, Höss approves design plans for a new crematorium while simultaneously spending time with his children as they fish or swim. Meanwhile, gunshots, shouting, and the sounds of trains and furnaces can be heard just over the garden fence.

The problematic apathy that allows for such abhorrent normalcy displays the fine line separating good and evil people. Based on the true story of Höss and his family, the film was nominated for five Academy Awards and won two for Best International Feature Film and Best Sound. The Zone of Interest is streaming on Max on Apr. 5.

Alex Edelman: Just for Us

Stream on April 6

Alex Edelman: Just for Us is the third stand-up show from comedian Alex Edelman. The special is a retelling of sorts of the slew of anti-Semitic threats Edelman ensured online and his response afterward. From Boston but currently living in Queens, the comedian comes face to face with those behind such hatred when he covertly attends a meeting of White Nationalists. What transpires ultimately leads to the hilarious, although mildly uncomfortable, stories Edelman discloses throughout his performance. Alex Edelman: Just for Us is streaming on Apr. 6.
