The ’90s indie rock band emerged from a 12-year hiatus in 2022 for a massive worldwide reunion tour that’s still going strong to this day. During their hiatus, they’ve put together a wonderfully weird jukebox repertoire based on songs from their catalogue, promoting it through a pop-up Pavement Museum.
As Pavement fans know, all of this activity was captured by filmmaker Alex Ross Perry for a film, SidewalksThe film will premiere at the Venice Film Festival, which runs from August 28 to September 7. The screening will feature Joe Keery, Jason Schwartzman, Tim Heidecker, Zoe Lister-Jones, Michael Esper, Nat Wolff, Fred Hitchinger, Logan Miller, Griffin Newman, and Kathryn Gallagher.
“Sidewalks“A hybrid narrative, documentary, musical, and textual study of the iconic 1990s indie band Pavement,” reads a press release. “The film intimately shows the band’s preparations for a 2022 reunion tour, while simultaneously tracking preparations for a musical based on their songs, a museum dedicated to their history, and a massive Hollywood biopic inspired by their epic as the most important band of a generation.”
