already known Kamala Harris fan Olivia Rodrigo has expressed her support for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee by reposting a video Harris filmed about reproductive rights on Instagram.
“We who believe in reproductive freedom will stop Donald Trump’s extreme ban on abortion because we trust women’s ability to make decisions about their own bodies.” [sic] “We don’t want to let our government tell us what to do,” Harris says in the video posted to Rodrigo’s story. “When Congress passes a law to restore reproductive freedoms, as President of the United States, I will sign it into law.” Rodrigo backed up that sentiment with four “hands up” emojis.
Rodrigo has long supported reproductive rights. When the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade In 2022, the singer expressed her concerns on stage at Glastonbury. “I am devastated and horrified,” she told the audience. “Many women and girls are going to die because of this.” She made similar statements that year at a concert in Washington, D.C.
This year, when she began her tour in support of bowelsShe launched Fund 4 Good, an initiative that will help raise money for the National Abortion Fund Network through ticket sales, and helped distribute birth control pills at a concert in St. Louis, Missouri, where reproductive rights are under threat, in March, though the practice was soon stopped.
Rodrigo met and photographed Harris during a White House visit to discuss COVID-19 vaccines in 2021. Harris posted a photo of the visit on Instagram with the caption: “I agree, vaccines — they’re good for you.”
