Fox Gives ,000 to Comic-Con Attendee at ‘Universal Basic Guys’ Panel

Fox just made San Diego Comic-Con a little more rewarding for one lucky attendee. During a panel Thursday night to promote the network’s upcoming new animated series “Universal Basic Guys,” Fox handed out a gift bag to everyone in the San Diego Convention Center auditorium. One of the bags had a special sticker on it, awarding a random winner $3,000.

In fact, because it was shaped like a hot dog, the poster proclaimed, “You’re a hot dog.” The $3,000 prize fits into the concept of “Global Basic Guys,” which centers on two brothers who work in a hot dog factory — until they lose their jobs to automation and receive $3,000 a month in a new basic income program. The series follows their lives as they suddenly have a lot of time and money to pursue some ridiculous adventures.

Series creators Adam Malamut (voicing brothers Mark and Hank Hughes) and Craig Malamut revealed the surprise while sharing more details about “Universal Basic Guys,” which premieres Sunday, Sept. 8, right after two NFL games on Fox.

Along with Adam Malamut, Universal Basic Guys stars Talia Genevieve as Tammy, Fred Armisen as David, and Allie Maki as Andrea. Fox has already announced a second season renewal ahead of its premiere.

Universal Basic Guys is produced in association with Fox Entertainment, Bento Box Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television. Adam and Craig Malamut (who recently signed an overall deal with Sony Pictures TV) created the series and serve as executive producers alongside season one executive producer Dan Lagana and season two executive producer Rob Russell.

The bag distributed to attendees included a bucket hat with the “Universal Basic Guys” logo, a hot dog, potato chips, and water or soda. Only one bag had a special winning sticker, and that audience member was presented with a huge check for $3,000.

Meanwhile, in addition to the panel prize, Fox and Universal Basic Guys are also sending out the Mark Hughes Real figures throughout Comic-Con (including outside the San Diego Convention Center and through the streets of the nearby Gaslamp Quarter), with QR codes that give Comic-Con attendees even more chances to win cash.

Fox introduced “Universal Basic Guys” and “Krapopolis” (which it renewed for a fourth season) on Thursday at Comic-Con.
