‘It Ends With Us’ Sets China Theatrical Release

The romantic drama “It Ends With Us” starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni is set to hit theaters in China next month.

Sony Pictures said the Baldoni-directed film has received the necessary approvals in China for release on August 30.

All imported films seeking revenue-sharing release in China must undergo multiple approvals and clear oversight before being determined which release a state-owned company will handle.

While there have been times in the recent past when these controls have been used to limit the flow of Hollywood titles into China, at present there appears to be little holding back major U.S. studio films.

Elsewhere, Columbia Pictures is distributing the film, which is scheduled to be released in North America on August 9.

Colleen Hoover's first novel adapted into a feature film, “It Ends With Us” tells the story of Lily Bloom (Lively), a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to start a new life in Boston and pursue her lifelong dream of opening her own business. Screenplay by Christy Hall.

“A chance encounter with charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni) sparks a powerful connection, but as the two fall deeply in love, Lily begins to see sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents’ relationship. When Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), suddenly returns to her life, her relationship with Ryle is turned upside down, and Lily realizes she must learn to draw on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future,” according to a synopsis provided by Columbia.

Along with Lively, Baldoni and Sklenar, the film also stars Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj and Amy Morton.

The film was produced by Wayfarer Studios and Columbia Pictures by Alex Saks, Jamie Heath, Lively, and Hall. Executive producers are Steve Sarowitz and Todd Black.
