Men in the United States The basketball team survived a scare from host France to claim the gold medal at the Paris Olympics last week, but that's not the only celebration happening this month.

Footwear brand PF Flyers celebrates the 96th anniversary of legendary basketball star Bob Cousy's birth with a special re-release of the Cousy All American High-Top.

Inspired by the original court shoes worn by Cozy during his time in the league, the high-top sneaker is re-released in the original “Sea Salt” colorway, with flat white laces and contrasting green detailing. The retro-inspired silhouette nods to the past with a vintage PF Flyers logo patch, chunky sole and rubber overlay. Recent updates include a new lightweight canvas upper and a more comfortable insole, designed with PF Flyer’s so-called “Magic Foam” insole. The look is sleek yet comfortable.

The Cousy All-American was first released in 1958 and is said to be one of the first sneaker endorsements in professional sports. It has since become one of the most popular PF Flyers releases, a staple among athletes, fashionistas, and collectors alike.

In addition to the original “Sea Salt” pair above, the Cousy has also been re-released in the classic “Black/Crimson” and “White/Vintage Crimson” colorways. The latter pair is available to retail for $90 on PFFlyers.com.

Cousy was a 13-time NBA All-Star, winning six championship titles—all with the Boston Celtics. Nicknamed the “Houdini of the Hardwood,” Cousy was known for his scoring and passing skills, and is widely considered one of the best point guards in the NBA. According to the PF Flyers website, his on-court moves and off-court appearances featured “a flashy style that was decades ahead of its time.”

Cousy was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1971 and his number was retired by the Boston Celtics in 1963. The NBA Eastern Conference Championship trophy is also named in his honor.

Cozy celebrated her 96th birthday on Aug. 9, making her the oldest NBA champion. A photo of the basketball star provided by the PF Flyers shows him still wearing his signature shoes at his home in Worcester, Massachusetts.
