With less than a month to go until the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, the hosts have been decided. As expected, father-son duo Eugene Levy and Dan Levy will host this year’s Emmy Awards, which will air live on ABC on Sunday, September 15.
The duo made history in 2020 as the first father and son to win major awards in the same year, thanks to “Schitt’s Creek.” That year — in which the winners were presented remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic — Eugene Levy won best comedy actor and Dan Levy won best supporting comedy actor. Dan Levy also won for best writing and directing, while both won Emmys for outstanding executive producers of a comedy series.
“For two Canadians who won Emmys in a real quarantine tent, the thought of being invited to host this year’s ceremony in a real theatre was motivation enough,” the Levy family said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on September 15.”
Eugene Levy and Dan Levy are the first father and son to host the Emmy Awards; they are also the first duo to do so since 2018 (when Colin Jost and Michael Che co-hosted the ceremony) and only the second duo to host the ceremony this century.

It's going to be a big night for Eugene Levy: He's nominated this year for his Apple TV+ series “The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy,” which is nominated for Best Nonfiction Series or Special.
“We are thrilled to welcome two generations of comedy geniuses to the Emmys stage as hosts,” said Television Academy President Chris Abrego. “Eugene and Dan Levy are known for creating unforgettable moments of laughter on screen, and together, they are full of energy. I can’t wait for Emmys fans to see what they have in store for all of us.”
Eugene Levy and Dean Levy will work closely with Emmy Award producers Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Gina Rosan Clay of Jesse Collins Entertainment, who received widespread acclaim in January for producing the previous Emmy episode hosted by Anthony Anderson.
“Eugene and Dan Levy have created two of the most iconic television characters in recent history and are the perfect fit to host television’s biggest night,” Collins, Harmon and Rosanne Clay said in a joint statement. “We look forward to an unforgettable experience with this dynamic duo.”
On Thursday, Jesse Collins Ent. revealed the members of their production team for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. (Alex Rudzinski was previously announced to return as director.)
Returning from the production team that aired the critically acclaimed 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Fox in January are Brittany Brazile as co-executive producer; producer Taryn Hurd; production designer Brian Stonestreet; and head writer John Max. Emmy winner Ricky Minor returns as music director for a sixth time; lighting designer Noah Metz and screen producer Drew Findley also return. Eric Cook joins the team as co-executive producer.
As for Eugene Levy, in addition to “Schitt’s Creek,” he’s of course known for “SCTV,” as well as the “American Pie” series and films like “Bringing Down the House,” “Cheaper by the Dozen 2” and “Father of the Bride Part II.” He’ll next appear in the new season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.”
Dan Levy’s Not a Real Production Company was behind Max’s The Big Brunch, as well as his directorial debut Good Grief. He’s behind the upcoming documentary Lilith Fair, and was recently seen in the final season of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, the fourth season of Netflix’s Sex Education, Disney’s Haunted Mansion remake, and Hulu’s romantic comedy Happiest Season. Up next are Paramount’s animated The Smurfs Movie; Animal Friends; and Kornel Mundruczó’s drama At the Sea.

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live from the Peacock Theater at L.A. Love in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15 (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT) on ABC, and stream the following day on Hulu.
