Chappell Roan Rejects Movie Offers Because ‘Actors Are Crazy’

Chappelle Rowan's fame has reached new heights with her album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwestern Princess” debuting at No. 2 behind Taylor Swift on the Billboard 200. Rowan's musical success seems to be catching on in Hollywood, as Rowan told Saturday Night Live cast member Baon Young to Interview magazine that she's been getting offers for acting roles in recent months. Rowan turned them down for one reason: “I say this with peace, love, and blessings. Actors are absolutely insane.”

“I’m so intimidated by the movie industry,” Rowan says. “I was asked to star in XYZ movie in the last two weeks, and I was like, ‘No.’ Literally, no. I originally started out in music because I wanted to get my foot in the door in acting, and then I moved to LA and I was like, ‘I don’t want to do that.’”

“The industry is so scary, and it’s completely out of my control,” she continued. “I can release music whenever I want. I don’t have to wait for a casting director to say, ‘It would be great if we cast you,’ and then decide your schedule for the next three months.”

Rowan is turning down acting offers for now, but she won't be staying away from Hollywood forever. Initially, she said any potential acting gig “would have to be very specific and very silly. Maybe I'd do a supporting role.”

“Yes, I have been trained on how to act, but this is the most stressful thing for me,” she added. “I would rather be arrested, because I know how to act in prison… Yes, it has to be right and at the right time.”

Rowan recently received a nomination for Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards, and she's sure to perform at the show on September 11. She's also widely tipped to be a Grammy nominee for Best New Artist. Her album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, was released last September and has been a huge hit over the past few months thanks to singles like “Good Luck Babe” and appearances at Coachella and the Governor's Ball.
