‘A Girl With Closed Eyes’ Korean Thriller Picked up for World Sales

Korean thriller “Girl with Closed Eyes,” which will be released at the Toronto International Film Festival before its world premiere at the Busan Film Festival in October, has secured a global sales representative at Finecut.

The company also represents “By the Stream,” the latest project from Korean director Hong Sang-soo, which premiered at Locarno earlier this month, where it won Best Performance, and will next screen at Centrepiece in Toronto. Finecut’s Korean horror thriller “Noise,” which recently premiered at the Sitges Fantasy Festival, will also screen at Toronto’s Industry Select Festival.

“Girl with Two Eyes Closed” is about a murder suspect and a detective with a shared past. The two women reunite after the murder of a famous author and uncover hidden truths as the investigation deepens.

The film, currently in advanced post-production, marks the directorial debut of Chun Soon-young, whose short film “Good Night” debuted at Cannes Critics’ Week. Finecut will screen footage from the film in Toronto. Busan announced that “Girl” has been selected for today’s Korean Cinema section, which is dedicated to critically acclaimed commercial films.

Kim Min-ha, who starred in the hit Apple TV+ series “Pachinko,” plays the suspect. Moon Choi, known for her roles in “Deliver Us From Evil,” “Okja,” and “Anarchist From Colony,” plays the detective.

The film is being presented by Solaire Partners, a venture capital firm that has backed several box office hits including “Parasite,” “Extreme Job,” “12.12: The Day” and “Next Sohee.”

Additionally, Finecut will present another upcoming film, “Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning,” an animated film based on a best-selling Korean novel, which tells the story of a doctor-turned-priest who must protect a naive but powerful child from his corrupt master. The film had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.
