A Minecraft Movie Teaser Trends at #1 as Squares Eat It Up

Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures and starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, “A Minecraft Movie” by director Jared Hess is the first-ever live-action film based on Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time.

The film also stars Emma Myers (Wednesday), Academy Award nominee Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), and Sebastian Eugene Hansen (Just Mercy, Lisey's Story), with Jennifer Coolidge.

Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you make things, it’s essential to your survival! Four outcasts—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Meyers), and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they’re suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a strange, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like pigs and zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unlikely crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge the five to be bold and reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive in the real world.

The film is directed by Academy Award nominee Hess (“Ninety-Five Senses,” “Nacho Libre”), and co-produced by Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Kyle Poiter, Jason Momoa, Jill Messick, Torv Franz Olafsson, and Foo Bui, while Todd Hallowell, Caileen Walters, Brian Mendoza, Jonathan Spaights, Pete Chiappetta, Andrew Larry, and Anthony Titanegro serve as executive producers.

The creative team behind the camera includes BAFTA-nominated director of photography Enrique Chediak (“127 Hours,” “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts”), Academy Award-winning production designer Grant Major (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” “The Meg”), editor James Thomas (“Pokémon: Detective Pikachu,” “Borat” films), Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor Dan Lemon (“The Jungle Book,” “The Batman”), and costume designer Amanda Neal (“The Meg,” “What We Do in the Shadows”). The cast was selected by Rachel Tenner. Music supervisors are Gabe Helfer and Karen Rachtman, and music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (“Thor: Ragnarok,” “LEGO® Movies”).

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present a Vertigo Entertainment/On The Roam/Mojäng Aktiebolag film directed by Jared Hess, titled “The Minecraft Movie.” The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures worldwide and Legendary East in China, and will be released theatrically and IMAX-only in North America on April 4, 2025, and internationally on April 2, 2025.
