Special Occasion Studios and the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) announced Thursday a partnership on the new documentary “Lover of Men: The Untold History of Abraham Lincoln.”
Opening September 6, “In Love with Men” is directed by Sean Peterson and explores Lincoln's intimate and romantic relationships with men throughout his life.
A portion of ticket sales from the film “The Man in Love” will benefit HRC when moviegoers use the organization’s dedicated ticket purchase link.
“The Human Rights Campaign is proud to be the exclusive beneficiary of ‘Man Lover,’” said Dan Grams, Vice President of Membership at the Human Rights Campaign. “This is an important conversation, at an important time in our nation — as we head into an important election where our freedoms — including our freedom to love who we love, to be who we are, and to live openly with pride — are at stake.”
The documentary features Lincoln scholars, never-before-seen photographs and letters. The official synopsis for the film reads in part: “‘Lover of Men’ expands its scope to include the history of human sexual fluidity and focuses on the profound differences between the sexual morality of the 19th century and those we hold today.” It adds: “The film fills in a missing piece of American history and challenges audiences to consider why we have embraced such a limited view of human sexuality. ‘Lover of Men’ is not only an exploration of gender roles and sexual identity, but also an examination of American intolerance.”
“Equality is at the heart of the American Dream, and equality is what guided Lincoln’s vision,” said Robert Rosenheck, producer of “In Love with Men.” “Hillary Clinton’s courageous fight for equality inspires us, and we are honored to partner with her on the release of “In Love with Men.”
The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people. The Human Rights Campaign envisions a world where LGBTQ+ people are accepted as full members of society at home, at work, and in every community.
