Anitta celebrates Rebeca Andrade's historic gold medal — and her music's role in it! On Monday, the Brazilian singer congratulated Andrade on social media after she became the country's most decorated Olympic gymnast with her floor exercise win.
Andrade's performance, which earned her the gold medal ahead of Team USA's Simone Biles' silver and Jordan Chiles' bronze, included a live remix of Anitta's 2014 hit “Movimento da Sanfoninha” in her routine.
“Queen of Brazil. Three great winners,” she wrote, referring to Chiles and Belles. “This queen used my song throughout the competition in her solo performance and I feel so emotional and proud like every Brazilian right now. Thank you Rebecca for representing us so beautifully and using my song. It means a lot to me.”
Anitta continued her message to Andrade in Portuguese, celebrating the singer for “representing” the country so well.
“Only Brazilians know how hard it is to be an athlete in our country. It takes a lot of love, resistance and courage. You are an example of fight and courage. I love you and support you now in your victory. I love you and support you in the future no matter what happens,” Anita wrote.
Andrade now has a total of six Olympic medals, breaking the record for most medals by a Brazilian previously held by sailor Robert Scheidt, who collected five.
In addition to the floor gold, she won her second gold medal in vault at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. At this year's Games, she also took silver medals in vault and individual artistic all-around, both behind Biles, and a bronze medal alongside Brazil in the team artistic all-around.
During the medal ceremony, both Biles and Chiles bowed to Andrade to commemorate the ceremony being the first time the Olympic podium featured all black gymnasts. In a press conference after Andrade's win, Biles described the Brazilian gymnast as “icon, legend“.”
“It was an all-black podium, so it was really exciting for us,” Biles said. “Jordan was thinking about whether we should bow to her, and I said, ‘Absolutely.’ She’s so exciting to watch, and then all the fans in the crowd were always cheering her on, so it was the right thing to do. She’s the queen.”
