New “Bachelorette” winner Devin Strader was arrested seven years before the show's final season, which he won and was briefly engaged to lead Jane Tran.
RealitySteve, who reports on Bachelor Nation, posted an affidavit from Strader's arrest warrant on a single felony count of “petty burglary of an inhabited dwelling.” In legal documents filed by an unnamed ex-girlfriend on March 19, 2017 and attached to the posted arrest warrant, she claims that while she was out of town, her home was broken into and a diamond necklace he had given her was stolen. diverse The statement has been verified separately.
She also alleged that Strader had come to her home several times before, knocked on the door and yelled at her. According to the affidavit, on March 22, 2017, she filed a restraining order.[Strader] She started a fire in the street with what appeared to be an actual restraining order. Her tire also blew out and when it was changed, [Strader] “He came out and started laughing at her,” the affidavit said.
Strader did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
While the robbery arrest affidavit was public record, the restraining order that included any details was confidential. Entertainment Weekly has since revealed the affidavit, in which Strader's ex-girlfriend claims she “spit on me and threw her drink at me at a Pelicans game in front of everyone in the crowd,” as well as “choking me and covering my mouth.”
After being arrested for theft, according to Entertainment Weekly, Strader pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal trespass and simple criminal vandalism of property under $500, and was given a year of unsupervised probation.
ABC and Warner Bros., the show's production company, declined to comment on the show's screening process. However, a source close to the production told us: diverse“We take rider safety very seriously and do our best to conduct thorough screening. Despite how thorough our screening process is, this precaution did not appear in our searches.”
Background checks on reality TV have become a bigger issue over the years; Lincoln Adim, a contestant on the 2018 season of “The Bachelorette” hosted by Becca Kufrin, was arrested on charges of indecent assault and battery two years ago. At the time, Warner Bros. said the production was not aware of any incident or charges.
Tran proposed to Strader on the final episode of “The Bachelorette,” which aired Sept. 3, but revealed in the episode following the show that he broke up with her shortly after and told her his feelings had changed. He later tried to defend himself in a 13-minute Instagram video, revealing private messages between him and Tran that have since been deleted.
Tran will make her debut on the premiere of “Dancing with the Stars” on Tuesday.
