Bad Bunny Buys Billboards Slamming Puerto Rico’s New Progressive Party

“A vote for the NPP is a vote for corruption,” reads one billboard.

Puerto Rican Rapper Bad Bunny has bought billboards across San Juan protesting the New Progressive Party, which is leading in the state's gubernatorial election in November. Several billboards have appeared on major city streets, one of which reads: “A vote for the New Progressive Party is a vote for corruption.”

On X, Bad Bunny wrote that he bought the billboards to show his love for Puerto Rico. Bad Bunny has not yet endorsed any candidate, but has rallied against the two major parties, the ruling People's National Party and the People's Democratic Party, which share political power on the island.

Although polls show Popular National Party candidate Jennifer González Colón leading the gubernatorial race, Juan Dalmau's Puerto Rican Independence Party has gained momentum, especially among younger voters angry about the island's slow recovery from Hurricane Maria in 2017.

Although Bad Bunny has been outspoken about Puerto Rico, he has shied away from broader U.S. politics at a time when pop artists like Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift have backed the Harris-Walz campaign.

In an interview on the “El Tony Pregunta” podcast, Bad Bunny said: “I don't interfere in politics; politics interferes in my life because it affects my country, because it affects Puerto Rico.”

Puerto Rican artist Anuel AA and reggaeton stars Nicky Jam have announced their support for Donald Trump's presidential campaign. Anuel AA and Justin Quiles attended a Trump rally in Pennsylvania on August 30, with Anuel calling Trump “the best president the world has ever seen.”
