Batman Will Be Honored with Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame in September



Bruce Wayne's “crazy” persona is about to get a serious upgrade, says the Joker (Jack Nicholson), in regards to all those “cool toys.” Yes, there's a movie star now. Batman In the future, however, it will not need to be displayed at Wayne Manor. Instead, it will be added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame (according to a press release). On Thursday, September 26, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Steve Nissen will serve as host and present the comic book character with the 2,790th star, DC Comics President, CEO and Publisher Jim Lee He is scheduled to be among the speakers at the event.




Batman will become the first superhero to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the fictional character will receive the honor in the “Motion Picture” category. Lee, whose comic book artwork includes iconic characters like Batman and Marvel’s X-Men, will be joined by DC Comics Senior Vice President and General Manager Ann DeBise next week. And as if the star wasn’t enough, Batman will also be honored with a world record for being the first superhero to grace the Walk of Fame. The honor will be presented by Guinness World Records adjudicator Michael Embrick.


Batman first appeared in the comics. Police comics #27 (1939), which celebrated its 85th anniversary earlier this year, created the Dark Knight by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. The Dark Knight's origins came in the wake of Superman's debut in Action Comics #1 (1938) the previous summer, but it would be another year before the original Robin the Boy Wonder, also known as Dick Grayson, joined Bruce Wayne's Bat in the pages of Police comics No. 38 (1940).

In a year that has already seen Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Hemsworth receive a star, it’s even more fitting that Batman’s induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame comes on the heels of director Tim Burton’s September 3 honor. Burton, of course, directed the return of the Caped Crusaders to the silver screen in the 1989 film. Batman In continuation thereof, Batman Returns (1992), starring Michael Keaton as the Bat and Bruce Wayne.

Batman fans can watch the Dark Knight's coronation on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, September 26, at 11 a.m. PT, as the event will be broadcast live from outside the Guinness World Records Museum at 6764 Hollywood Boulevard. Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez explained that Batman will be in good company on the hallowed walkway (according to the official Guinness World Records website) as the new star will be next to those of creator Bob Kane and TV star Adam West. “The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to honor its first superhero on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! It's the one and only, Batman! Fans around the world will be thrilled to know that Batman's star will be next to TV's Batman co-stars, Adam West, and Batman co-creator, Bob Kane.”

In addition to Batman’s Hollywood Walk of Fame tribute, special interactive events will be held to create an immersive experience for fans attending to honor one of pop culture’s most beloved characters. In partnership with Funko, an all-day fan event will take place on September 26 alongside the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony at Funko Hollywood (6201 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028). Jim Lee will participate in an exclusive one-hour meet and greet with Batman fans at Funko Hollywood from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Attendance for this exclusive signing is limited to fans who have obtained a wristband.

Wristbands will be distributed to the first 100 fans who purchase Batman merchandise from Funko Hollywood on Tuesday, September 24, two days prior to the event. No outside merchandise is permitted. One wristband per person. Wristbands are available on a first-come, first-served basis. On signing day, fans can begin lining up at 9:00 a.m.

Warner Bros. Archives will also host a pop-up museum of costumes and props from Batman’s film and TV history at Funko Hollywood. Authentic props, iconic costumes — and a few surprises — will give fans a rare opportunity to enjoy pieces of Batman’s cinematic history up close and personal. More details will be announced soon.


The well-deserved tribute to the DC Comics superhero comes on the heels of star wars Ewan McGregor is set to receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 12, featuring the Force-choking Darth Vader himself, Hayden Christensen, speaking on behalf of his co-star.
