Becky G is dealing with her feelings in public — and she's keen to continue building on what she's accomplished in the past year with EskinasThe Mexican-American singer released her emotional song “Como Diablos” on Thursday, announcing her upcoming album, Meetingswill be released on October 10th.
“I feel like Eskinas “It was a process of elimination: removing everything I wasn't to become everything I had always been on the inside,” she says. Rolling Stone“That's why I was like, 'I don't want to give up this world that I feel safe in as an artist. I want to expand it.' And once I Eskinas “We went out and kept making music. We didn’t stop.” She explains what that means by Meetingswhich she describes as “Eskinas “At Night” with more “depth and mystery”.
Becky G enlisted songwriters Sara Shell and Hector Enrique Guerrero for “Como Diablos,” which she says is the most emotional track on the album. The video, directed by Leo Aguirre, shows Becky G in a Monterrey dumpster singing about her intense post-breakup experience. “I have a pain in my heart that won’t go away,” she sings in Spanish. “I’ve tried everything, but there’s no pill to forget you.”
The video shows Becky wearing a Willy Chavarria dress, surrounded by a crowd of men in the junkyard, and a crane moving through the dilapidated cars around her.
“It’s about how you internalize your feelings and turn them into an internal force, but also how you translate that outward,” she says. “Anger doesn’t necessarily have to be explosive, but it can still have this vibration that makes the ground shake… and I ChaparitaI loved this interpretation of power.
Becky says being on set reminded her of her grandfather, whose Inglewood backyard was “literally a junkyard” — he and his brothers would spend hours fixing cars. “It felt like home,” she says, laughing. “There were so few things I had to take care of.” ferulais [little dogs] “People were running everywhere and people from the auto shop were calling their wives and telling them we were there. There was an energy in the air that felt very welcoming.”
Becky says she “found something really special” in her art while making “Como Diablos” and the rest of MeetingsShe said she was proud of being able to explore new ways of making music on the album. “It was really fun to play with it, vocally,” she says. “It’s like a tone of voice that I don’t think I’ve really explored. I feel like you can really hear me.”
Becky describes each song on the new album as,Politas from from the inside out“It represents the different memories and emotions in her life, and how they all manage to coexist in herself and in her project.
“I feel this ability to express myself without any reservations,” she says. “I really enjoy this space that I live in.”
MeetingsHer new albums, which also include the film “Mercedes” starring Oscar Maidon, will arrive in time for her Casa Gomez: Otro Capitulo tour this fall, which includes stops in Atlanta, Columbus, San Antonio and Phoenix.
“What I’m learning now through my music is to do things that make me happy, to do things that feel right to me, and I can’t necessarily control the outcome,” she adds. “That’s a big part of my self-discovery as a young woman and as an artist.”
