Warner Bros.' Beetlejuice held on to the top spot at the UK and Ireland box office for a second week running, taking £4.2 million ($5.6 million) for a total of £14.4 million ($19 million), according to figures from Comscore.
Universal's new album Speak No Evil came in second with £1.4m, while Studiocanal's Lee entered the charts in third with £705,643.
The National Theatre's re-release of Prima Facie – NT Live 2022 took fourth place, adding £556,470 to a total of £1.4m. Universal's Despicable Me 4 continues its strong run in fifth place, taking £389,929 in its tenth week for a total of £46.2m.
Disney's Deadpool & Wolverine came in sixth, adding £359,588 to take its total to £56.6m over eight weeks. Lionsgate UK's new film The Critic came in seventh with £353,075. Sony Pictures' It Ends With Us came in eighth with £327,196 for a total of £20.8m, while Disney's Alien: Romulus came in ninth with £268,310 for a total of £12.7m. Malayalam-language film Ajayante Randam Moshanam from DJ Tech LTD rounded out the top ten with £189,982.
On September 18, Universal will distribute the documentary “Jung Kook: I Am Still,” featuring the BTS member of the same name. On September 20, Mubi’s horror film “The Substance,” which won awards at Cannes and Toronto, will be released, starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, and Dennis Quaid. The day will also see the release of Sundance Award-winning indie drama “Girls Will Be Girls” from Modern Films and Icon Film Distribution’s Bucheon Award-winning horror thriller “Strange Darling.” Other Sundance winners include Dogwoof’s documentary “Sugarcane.”
Cyborg: A Documentary, about the world’s first officially recognised robot, is produced by Tull Stories, and One Day Films’ Goodwin Island is a British drama. From MetFilm Distribution comes César-winning French legal drama The Goldman Case by Cédric Cahn, while Skye Films Ltd is presenting a one-day-only screening of Dublin’s award-winning documentary Notes from Sheepland. ICA Cinema is also screening IndieLisboa award-winning documentary Astrakan 79 and family animation 200% Wolf.
