As for Ryder, she says that envisioning Lydia growing up “was hard to imagine.” Speaking to Slash Film, Ryder said:
“I certainly think I never imagined Lydia having children or getting into any kind of relationship. I always thought she was probably in her own world when she grew up. She was in the attic and happy, but lonely.”
Ryder's vision of Lydia certainly seems to be on trend, but Lydia isn't alone in the attic. She's the mother of a teenage daughter and the host of a TV series called Ghost House With Lydia Deetz. Ryder says that adapting this version of Lydia began to take shape once Jenna Ortega (who plays her daughter Astrid) and Justin Theroux (who plays Lydia's boyfriend Rory) came on board.
“I think once we got there and once Jenna and I had a relationship and once Justin joined the team… I mean, I think everyone my age now, we’ve all been in those situations where you’re like, ‘What was I thinking about this relationship?’ But I don’t know what little Lydia was expecting, and I don’t think she ever expected to be in front of the camera.”
