Betty Gilpin Says Her Role in Three Women Is Now Her Favorite

Betty Gilpin I was incredibly surprised by how much she resonated with playing a suburban housewife on Starz's new drama. Three women. “This has been the role I’ve played my whole life,” Gilpin told MovieWeb in a recent interview about the new series, created and directed by Lisa Taddeo. The story revolves around three very different women at a crossroads in their lives. Gilpin plays Lena in the series, which also stars Shailene Woodley (Big little lies), Dewanda Wise (jurassic world dominion), and Gabriel Creevey (In my skin).

Lena, who has been in a loveless marriage for nearly a decade, suddenly embarks on an affair that consumes all of her energy and changes her life completely. Of the role, Gilpin said:It was my favorite. [role] I have played beforeLisa's book was a gift to me as a woman in the world, because I felt like I really saw versions of myself and all three. [the women] “In a way I've never been able to put into words before,” she added.

“As an actor, you have to show up and take responsibility. Then you go home and think, '

“Although the circumstances surrounding her are not the kind she feels inside.”

“Playing someone whose desires and needs were as high as a character in Moby Dick “It was the greatest gift ever,” Gilpin continued to MovieWeb, referring to the wide range of emotions she had to express. It’s a wonderful performance, in fact, and one of Gilpin’s best after a memorable stint at the Peacock’s Mrs. Davis.

The actress added that playing the character of Lina helped her develop herself as an actress as well.It definitely felt like I was back in school.“I think there’s a safety in playing characters who don’t go through high-stakes experiences, or make big decisions, or have their desires and needs ooze from every pore like Lena does,” she said. It's easier to be calm, simple and cool. There's less chance of falling flat on your face. She continued, saying:

“[For] Lena, it's not possible for her to play her role the same way.
The eleventh ocean —
Cool, gentle, and whispering.
She's someone who's panting, pulsing, and screaming for what she wants at all times.
Because once she gets on the hamster wheel of what she wants, she can't get off…
As an actor, it felt risky, scary and exciting at the same time to be on that wheel.
