Immediately after the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, Beyoncé played the role of the buzz woman for Team USA in a promotional ad introducing the athletes who will compete over the next few weeks.
Dressed in a red, white and blue outfit, Beyoncé shouted out to the American contestants, who were wearing a skintight suit, blue cowboy hat and white cowboy boots. She introduced some of the team members — Simone Biles, Sha'Querie Richardson, Noah Lyles, Caleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky — as “YA YA,” from her latest album “Cowboy Carter,” played in the background.
“Look at America, folks,” Beyoncé says. “These hopes and dreams, these superstars who represent us. The people of this big, bold, beautiful, complex nation. All rooting for them together. Come on, you gotta love Noah and Shakari. The fastest man and woman on the planet. They’ll race around the world anytime, anywhere. How about Caleb? The proud dad, who’s back to drinking for more gold. And Katie? The longer the race, the better she’ll swim. And I know you know my girl Simone. Born to fly, destined to inspire. We have superstars and legends. We have big dreamers who fought their whole lives to get here. Who gave up everything for one chance, and made it happen.”
As images of the athletes flashed across the screen, Beyoncé continued to share her support for those representing America at the Olympics. “This pride and joy? This is what makes me care about this team. This is what makes me believe in this team. This is why I can’t wait to see what they do over the next 16 days. America, bow down to Team USA, the best of us. What an incredible vision. What an incredible team to believe in. What an incredible night to celebrate.”
The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games kicked off earlier today, featuring all the athletes who arrived at the Seine River and a host of artists and performers throughout the event. Lady Gaga appeared early in the broadcast, delivering a lively performance of “Mon truc en plumes,” while Celine Dion returned to the stage after years of absence with a powerful performance of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne A L’Amour.”
Beyoncé recently acted as a U.S. representative by giving permission to Kamala Harris’s campaign to use her 2016 song “Freedom” in the first commercial for her campaign. While she has yet to endorse any candidate, she has previously given her blessing to President Joe Biden and Harris in the 2020 election.
