Joe Biden is taking it to Donald Trump.
The president’s campaign responded to Trump’s wild press conference in New York on Monday by slamming the former president as “weak and desperate — both as a man and a candidate for President.”
“He spent the weekend golfing, the morning comparing himself to Jesus, and the afternoon lying about having money he definitely doesn’t have,” the statement read, adding that “America deserves better than a feeble, confused, and tired Donald Trump.”
Trump spoke to the media in New York amid a very busy day for the former president’s legal docket. His comments came after a hearing in which Judge Juan Merchan rejected Trump’s bid to delay his criminal hush-money trial, setting it for April 15. Trump was livid at the ruling, accusing Merchan of participating in a Democratic conspiracy to keep him from reclaiming the White House. “We’ll be appealing this,” Trump said of the ruling, which is effectively final and not subject to a traditional appeal.
Trump was gifted some good news earlier in the day however, when an appeals court blocked the state of New York’s collection of his civil fraud judgment, giving Trump 10 days to pony up a $175 million bond. Trump previously had until Monday to post a $464 million bond, which his lawyers said last week that he would be unable to manage. Trump has been whining incessantly about the civil fraud case on Truth Social, and ahead of the appeals court’s ruling, shared a message he said he received Monday morning comparing his plight to the persecution of Jesus Christ.
Trump addressed all of his legal woes in the press conference cited by Biden’s campaign. He made a few gaffes as he ranted, confusing the election and his trial and promising to “bring crime back to law and order.” Trump also said he didn’t see much of a problem with having foreign governments help him pay for his bond despite his candidacy for president.
The Biden campaign’s statement comes a day after Biden mocked Trump for crowing about supposedly winning his golf club’s championship. “It is my great honor to be at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach tonight, AWARDS NIGHT, to receive THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY & THE SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY,” the former president wrote on Sunday. “I WON BOTH!”
“Congratulations, Donald,” Biden replied. “Quite the accomplishment.”
