One day after a Kanye West fan leaked a copy of his new album, Big Sean has announced the release of his sixth solo album, “Better Me Than You,” which is set to be released on August 9 on Def Jam.
The rapper, who acknowledged the leak last night by releasing a snippet of an Alchemist-produced song, released a new single titled “Yes” tonight to coincide with the album announcement, giving a preview of what to expect from the project.
Unfortunately, drama has already surrounded the project after Sean performed his song “On the Radar Freestyle” a few days ago, where he said, “I got better things to do than find someone to fight with.” Some social media users claimed that it was a jab at Kendrick Lamar. But shortly after, DJ Head tweeted that he had spoken with Sean who told him that the bar wasn’t for Lamar, but rather “a different Jiminy.”
According to the leaker, this was Kanye West, who helped revitalize Shawn's career in the past. The two have had public problems recently, with West claiming in 2021 that signing Shawn to his label GOOD Music was “the worst thing I've ever done.”
The leaker stated that they released the album out of disrespect to Shawn. But Shawn dismissed the idea that the leaker released the 14-track album at West's request. “I know [West] “I wouldn't do that, because that's bullshit, I know he wouldn't do anything like that, so whoever did it, I just know he screwed me over,” Sean said in a live broadcast on social media today.
The leak was obtained by diverseThe album contains 14 tracks and guest appearances from what appears to be Nas, Charlie Wilson, and Brent Faiyaz. The album appears to be incomplete, with blank spaces for potential new tracks. The leaker claimed that the leaked album title was “Feelings & Random Thots”, and suggested that the alternative title was “Better Me Than You”, which turned out to be the actual title.
