Billy Porter and Alan Cumming to Produce Sam Morrison’s ‘Sugar Daddy’

Grammy Award-winning artist Billy Porter and two-time Tony Award winner Alan Cumming have joined the production team for Sam Morrison's one-man show, “Sugar Daddy.”

Stephen Brackett’s “Sugar Daddy” tells the story of a summer in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where Morrison met the hot girl of his dreams, sparking a love story that will forever haunt him. But in the midst of the pandemic, the love of his life tragically dies from Covid. A devastated Sam realizes the only way to cope is through comedy. And that’s done on stage, live. In front of thousands of strangers, as the film’s intro says.

“Joining the Sugar Daddy production team is an incredible opportunity to promote a bold and deeply human story,” said Porter. “I am thrilled to support this groundbreaking play that challenges convention and celebrates authenticity.”

“I am thrilled to be joining Sam Morrison as a producer on Sugar Daddy,” Cumming added. “Sam is an incredible actor and writer, and this show is a revelation. It not only explores personal grief with humor but with bold compassion and insight. It is fresh, heartfelt and truly raw, and I can’t wait to help bring this incredible story into more people’s lives.”

The stage production first received critical acclaim at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland before opening at the SoHo Playhouse Off-Broadway in New York where it has been extended three times.

“Sugar Daddy” opens at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills on Sept. 29 and will run there through Oct. 13 before moving to Broadway in 2025. Tickets can be purchased on the venue’s website.
