Black Midi ‘Indefinitely Over,’ Singer of Acclaimed British Band Says


London-based band Black Midi, who earned the title of “Britain's hottest new band” early in their career with their eccentric approach to hard rock and progressive punk, appear to have called it quits.

Fans learned of the band's fate on social media Saturday, as singer and guitarist Jordie Gripp was hosting an Instagram Live. When asked about the status of Black Midi's new album — the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2022 album hell “No more black mede,” Greb warned them, “that’s it.”

“Black Meddy was an interesting band, and now they're gone indefinitely,” Greb continued.

Guitarist and vocalist Cameron Pickton confirmed his former bandmate's comments on Sunday in a later-deleted tweet (via NME ), “We agreed not to say anything about the 'break-up' so I was as surprised as anyone else last night but maybe in a different way. I guess sometimes all you can say is lol. Anyway!”

Picton added that he is already working on his own music, “I will start recording sessions for my own album soon, and I am looking forward to the future – it should be good, and I hope it is great!”

Formed in 2017, Black Midi quickly rose to prominence on the London music scene, “playing packed clubs and attracting ecstatic festival crowds through pure word-of-mouth enthusiasm,” as Rolling Stone Written in our 2020 band profile.
