Bridgerton Season 4 to Tell Benedict’s Love Story With Sophie

It's official: Netflix's “Bridgerton” season 4 will focus on the love story of perpetual bachelor Benedict Bridgerton.

Benedict, played by Luke Thompson, has been on the back foot in recent seasons, but now he will be the next Bridgerton sibling to find his soulmate. The season will follow the events of the Bridgerton novel A Gentleman's Offer, which sees Benedict searching for a “silver lady” named Sophie.

“Benedict has always been a little lost — or free depending on how you want to look at it,” Thompson told Netflix’s Tudum, which revealed the news. “But now he’s trying to find something more solid in himself.”

when diverse Bridgerton season 3 producer Jess Brownell opened up about the season 3 finale in June, explaining the decision to reveal Benedict Bridgerton's sexual orientation through a threesome with his new girlfriend Lady Tilly Arnold (Hannah New) and her boyfriend Paul (Lucas Aurelio). When Tilly decided she wanted to return to monogamy and not “share” him, Benedict gently ended the relationship, not ready to settle down after discovering a new part of himself, just before the season ended.

“I knew that people there had a sense that Benedict might be gay,” Brownell said. “And personally, that made sense to me. Not only is he open-minded, but he seems like the kind of person who wouldn’t care much about sex — someone who might be more fluid and sexual. He’s really drawn to someone’s soul. So I felt like we had to figure out those pieces that were in seasons one and two. That’s what we were trying to do with his story.”
