Cate Blanchett-Starring ‘Disclaimer’ Teaser Might Make You Uneasy


“Beware of narration” “And the shape,” a godlike voice announces to begin the trailer for Apple TV+. DisclaimerOn Wednesday, the streaming service released a one-minute trailer for the seven-part series directed by Alfonso Cuarón, Disclaimerwill be released on October 11th.

The trailer features several scenes from the show to introduce its many characters: Cate Blanchett as journalist Catherine Ravenscroft staring fearfully into the camera, Kevin Kline looking into the distance with rapt attention, and Kodi Smit-McPhee, who plays Ravenscroft's son, during what appears to be a sex scene.

“Their power can bring us closer to the truth,” the voice declares as eerie music plays. “But because of our deeply held beliefs and the judgments we make, that power can also be a weapon of great manipulation.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, take note,” the voiceover ends ominously as scenes of McPhee’s character being hit by a wall, Blanchett nearly getting run over by a car, and two people walking into the ocean flash on the screen.

The upcoming series is directed by five-time Oscar-winning Mexican director Cuarón, based on the novel Disclaimer Written by Renée Knight, the series follows Ravenscroft, a journalist known for uncovering crimes and shameful acts, after she receives an anonymous tip that reveals her own secrets.

“As Catherine races to uncover the writer’s true identity, she is forced to confront her past before it destroys her life and her relationships with her husband Robert (Sacha Baron Cohen) and their son Nicholas (Smit-McPhee),” reads the synopsis of the show.

The series, which is scheduled to air in October, also stars ghost threadLesley Manville, Enola HolmesLouis Partridge, Leila George, squid gameHoyeon, and Indira Varma as the narrator. The show's tagline reads: “Any resemblance to persons living or dead is unacceptable.” no coincidence.”
