Channing Tatum Reacts to Gambit in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’

Spoiler alert: This story contains spoilers for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” now in theaters..

Channing Tatum took to social media Monday night to thank Ryan Reynolds for his guest appearance in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” saying he will be indebted to the Marvel star “probably forever.”

In Deadpool & Wolverine, Tatum finally gets to debut his mutant character Gambit from the X-Men. He and his producing partner, Reed Carolin, spent four years developing a standalone film about the character for 20th Century Fox, but the project fell through when Disney and Fox merged in 2019. Now, Gambit has arrived on the big screen.

In his post, Tatum shared two side-by-side photos of himself and Reynolds at Comic-Con: one from nearly a decade ago when Reynolds premiered “Deadpool,” and another from last weekend when the cast of “Deadpool & Wolverine” surprised everyone by bringing out several stars who appeared in the film.

“These photos are almost 10 years apart from the day Ryan Reynolds came out. I was sitting in the audience when Ryan Reynolds showed the world the first look of Deadpool 1 and I think I ran backstage right after and found him and I think I hugged him and said oh my god you did it man. It’s perfect,” Tatum wrote. “I didn’t really know him at the time. But since then I can say there’s almost no one in this industry who supports me more than @VancityReynolds.”

Tatum expressed how important it was to him to finally revive Gambit, saying, “I thought I lost Gambit forever,” but Reynolds “fought for me and Gambit.”

“I'll probably be forever indebted to him, because I'm not sure how I could ever do anything that would equal what this means to me,” Tatum said. “I love you, my friend.”

He also praised “Deadpool & Wolverine” director Shawn Levy, calling him “a truly brilliant creator on every level.”

“Everything happens for a reason,” Tatum concluded of his experience on “Deadpool & Wolverine.” “I’m so grateful to have been part of this movie. It’s a masterpiece in my opinion. It’s a real joy. I was literally screaming in the theater. LFG!!”

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is now showing in theaters.
