Cobra Kai Season 6 Reviews Suggest Hit Netflix Series Could Leave Fans Disappointed


There is a problem in the dojo: The final season of the critically acclaimed Netflix series Cobra Kai The film got off to a rocky start, at least as far as critics were concerned. Cobra Kai It premiered in 2018 (initially on YouTube Red before moving to Netflix), taking place decades after its previous premiere, in 1984. the Karate KidThe series revolves around the simmering feud between Daniel and Johnny. The series saw the two men running rival dojos with different teachings: Johnny's Cobra Kai focused on an aggressive fighting style, while Daniel's Miyagi-do taught a more defensive style. Over the course of its run, the series explored the clash between the two men, their philosophies, and the struggles faced by the new “karate kids” involved in Daniel and Johnny's dojo.

With Netflix releasing the first part of Cobra KaiOn July 18, reviews were limited but pointed. Looper’s Audrey Fox notes that “while Season 6 has some satisfying closure for the characters, the fact that almost everyone seems emotionally healthy makes it less chaotic—and a little less fun—than some of its previous seasons.” The Daily Beast’s Scarlett Harris wrote that the show has “lost its charm,” adding:


“I'm all for characters sitting around shooting guns, but after the cartoonish banter that this show has managed to sustain for seven years, diehard fans of the series

The universe will not be at all happy with the relative calm of the first part.

Alex Godfrey of Empire felt similarly, giving the series just 2/5 and saying:

“As the final season of Cobra Kai draws to a close, the first third feels a bit tired. I wish Mr. Miyagi was around to magically bring it back to life.”


And while Screen Rant's Ben Gibbons had some issues with the first part of the final season, he felt there were bigger and better things ahead:

“The final season of Cobra Kai may have gotten off to a rocky start, but the rest of the season looks set to feature some huge moments.”


The film's thrilling ending, comedy, and 80s nostalgia may keep Cobra Kai fans hooked on the movie.

Despite the issues critics have pointed out, it's not all bad. Cobra KaiPaste's Amy Amatangelo praised the season's comedy (“It's got a lot going for it”) and noted that the series “remains wonderfully steeped in its '80s cultural roots,” which is undoubtedly a big plus for the the Karate Kid Fans watch the series for nostalgia. Perhaps most importantly, Amatangelo says, “By the end of the five episodes premiering as part of this first installment of Season 6, the series delivers a very exciting conclusion.” That leaves plenty of time for atonement. Part Two of Cobra KaiThe final season of the series is likely to witness exciting drama and action as the focus shifts to the championship.


Meanwhile, Collider's Nate Richard declared that “the spirit of Netflix's karate-comedy, like Its Namesake, never dies.”

“While it will inevitably be difficult to say goodbye to Cobra Kai, if the first part of Season 6 is any indication, longtime fans of the series and the franchise as a whole will get the best possible conclusion they could have hoped for.”

With the first part just out, it's too early to predict how fans will react to the first part of season six. On X (formerly known as Twitter), fans of the series are excited to celebrate “Cobra Kai Day,” especially since they've waited nearly two years since season five aired. While subsequent seasons maintained positive reviews, ratings declined slightly, but season five bucked that trend, returning to near-perfect acclaim with a 98% rating.


Cobra Kai Expected to appear alongside them in the current season are stars Macchio, Zabka, Courtney Henggeler, Zulu Mariduena, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Jacob Bertrand, Peyton List, and some familiar Karate Kid faces.

The final season premiered on Netflix today, July 18. The second season will premiere in November 2025, with the final season set for 2025.
