Appearing at the recent San Diego Comic-Con panel for The PenguinMarino discussed the design of the prosthetic suit and revealed two main influences on the design: Marino took inspiration for his design from the fictional villain Fredo Corleone from The Godfatherand real-life bad guy Harvey Weinstein for the iconic ring penguin. Mike Marino also took the bird influence into the character, studying bird anatomy and incorporating certain elements into the suit. He explained:
“I looked at injured birds and older penguins, and they had split beaks and all this stuff. So, on one side of his face in silhouette, you have this curved face with scars on the side — but if you align that with a picture of a bird, it mimics the mouth of a bird.”

Colin Farrell Reveals His Favorite Batman Characters
Colin Farrell stars in two new series, Sugar and The Penguin, and shares his favorite Batman characters with MovieWeb.
The Penguin Marino will explore his roots and ambition to rule Gotham’s underworld, as he confronts Sofia “The Executioner” Falcone (Cristin Milioti), the ruthless daughter of crime boss Carmine Falcone. Having been a pillar of Gotham’s underworld for years, Marino wanted to reflect this in Oz’s prosthetics. His scars and broken nose are signs of the character’s bloody journey to power. He explained:
“It's actually a beak on one side. It's completely torn off on one side, as if the character [has] “He's been in fights, he's been in some fights.”
As awesome as Oswald Cobblepot's prosthetics are, they're meaningless without a talented actor capable of delivering a convincing (and terrifying) performance. Fans were worried when Farrell was first cast in the role, but the Irish actor has made the Penguin his own movie, stealing every scene in the film. The batMarino agrees, saying that Farrell's talent and charisma are what make his visual effects work truly successful:
“Colleen's charisma shines through all of it. Basically, you get this very charming, realistic-looking gangster who fits in with Matt [Reeves]”The world, in a picture book. It's a dream to do.”
It takes place after the events of The bat, The Penguin It is an eight-episode series set to premiere on HBO this fall. The new series is directed by Lauren Lefranc (Shield Clients). Along with Farrell and Milioti, The Penguin The series also stars Clancy Brown, Mark Strong, and Rehnzi Velez.
