Dan Levy, Dad Eugene Joke in First 2024 Emmys Promo

ABC has released the first promo for this year's 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Dan Levy and Eugene Levy — and the promo they're hosting is going to be a surprise — or rather, a surprise. Yes, it's probably appropriate for the father-son duo to kick off their Emmys with a dad joke.

In the ad, Dan warns his dad not to try to make him laugh with lowered eyebrows. But Eugene can’t resist. The promo was released Tuesday night during ABC’s primetime slot — which included the season finale of “The Bachelorette.” The ad also comes as the Television Academy kicks off its Emmy Awards month, with the Creative Arts Emmys taking place this week, Sept. 7 and 8, at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

Earlier Tuesday, the Television Academy revealed the first batch of presenters for the first night of this week’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The names include LeVar Burton, Mark Cuban, Nikki Glaser, Derek Hough, Phil Keoghan, Lucy Liu, Jane Lynch, Olympic dance champion Victor Montalvo and Hannah Waddingham.

Other participants include Garcelle Beauvais, Jonathan Bennett, Mike Birbiglia, Danny Bowman, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Barbara Corcoran, comedian Matt Friend, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Derek Hough, David Isaacman, Daymond John, Kristen Keach, Ariana Madix, Katie Maloney, Tig Notaro, Abby Romeo, Masi Oka, Kevin O'Reilly, Melissa Peterman, and Fisher Stevens.

Meanwhile, as announced last month, Eugene Levy and Dan Levy are set to host this year's Emmy Awards, which will air live on ABC on Sunday, September 15 (and will air the following day on Hulu).

“For two Canadians who won Emmys in a real quarantine tent, the thought of being invited to host this year’s ceremony in a real theatre was motivation enough,” the Levys said in a joint statement as part of last month’s announcement. “We are thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on September 15.”

Eugene Levy and Dean Levy will work closely with Emmy Award producers Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Gina Rosan Clay of Jesse Collins Entertainment, who received widespread acclaim in January for producing the previous Emmy episode hosted by Anthony Anderson.

Eugene Levy and Dan Levy are the first father and son to host the Emmy Awards; they are also the first duo to do so since 2018 (when Colin Jost and Michael Che co-hosted the ceremony) and only the second duo to host the ceremony this century.

As he prepares for his hosting gig, Eugene Levy is gearing up this week for his Apple TV+ series “The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy,” which is nominated for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special.
