Why did Deadpool 3 change its name to Deadpool & Wolverine? Director Shawn Levy recently broke down the reasons why he decided to include Hugh Jackman’s ever-popular character in the title of the third movie in the R-rated franchise, which will also mark the arrival of both mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Disney’s purchase of Fox left fans waiting for the official introduction of the X-Men in the MCU. Although there have been increasing signs of the presence of mutants in the franchise, including the appearance of Beast and Binary in the post-credits scene of The Marvels, the biggest crossover of the old and new franchises will officially begin with Deadpool & Wolverine.

Speaking with ScreenRant at CinemaCon, Shawn Levy explained how the inclusion of Jackman’s Wolverine in the third Deadpool movie demanded a major change to the titling of the R-rated film. He said:
“As far as crafting the Deadpool and Wolverine story, I just felt privileged every day because you’re talking about two massive movie stars in their most iconic roles. It also gave me an opportunity. It’s the third Deadpool movie, but it’s not Deadpool 3. It’s a different thing that’s very much Deadpool and Wolverine. And it’s not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure.”
Wade Wilson may be the main character in their story, but the X-Men wouldn’t have made it very far on the big screen without Jackman’s involvement as Wolverine, an actor/character combination that has proven to be almost impossible to leave behind for either the fans or Jackman himself.
Is Taylor Swift in Deadpool & Wolverine?
In addition to Jackman’s return, Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to feature a long list of cameos from former Fox stars, including Jennifer Garner as Elektra, the already confirmed return of Aaron Stanford as Pyro, and many other rumors of X-Men actors from the original trilogy making a comeback. But that’s not all. It’s also possible that the film has other big surprises in store for the audience, and many suspect that a cameo by Taylor Swift could be one of them. As expected, no one dares to confirm or deny this particular rumor.
In a recent talk with Entertainment Tonight, Levy spoke about this, although once again he does not reveal the truth behind the rumor:
“I can’t even believe that you would dare ask me a question that you know I can’t answer. You know I can’t answer. All of America knows I can’t answer that. I will say as I said earlier here at CinemaCon. The proliferation of rumors about who is and isn’t in this movie is fabulous. Because no one will ever know the truth until July 26th.”
Deadpool and Wolverine
will arrive in theaters on July 26, 2024.
