Death Leaves ‘Undeniable Hole in Our Hearts’


The family of Rich Homie Quan is fondly remembering the rapper. On Monday, just days after his death at the age of 33, the “Type of Way” rapper's family shared a touching tribute.

“On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the Lamar family lost their beloved son, brother, father and friend,” read the statement shared with the people“Dequante Devontae Lamar, known to the world as Rich Homie Quan, was a proud citizen of the great city of Atlanta, Georgia and represented it as he and his music traveled across this world.”

“While he leaves us with an undeniable hole in our hearts, we take comfort in knowing that his music and his triumphant spirit live on,” the statement continued. “Kwan’s legacy will forever be woven into the soundtrack of our lives. And for that, we are grateful.”

The Kwan family concluded their statement by writing that details of the memorial service would be shared at a later date, and thanked everyone for their “kind words and support during this difficult time.”

Rolling Stone Cowan's death was confirmed by a family member and the Fulton County coroner last week. The cause of death remains under investigation.

Dozens of fans and celebrities, including Quavo, Playboi Carti and Lil Duval, joined in the tribute to the rapper. “God be with us we never saw this apart” [sic] “From our trip,” Quavo wrote in an Instagram Story, sharing an old photo of Migos alongside Quan in the studio.

“Rest in peace my brother Rich Homie Quan. Love you forever. #RichGang,” Jacques wrote on his X account. He later posted a photo of the two of them together, captioning it: “Legend.”

Rich Homie Quan broke out in 2013 with the YG-produced singles “Type of Way” and “My N—a,” though he gained fame in his hometown of Atlanta in 2008 with “Stay Down.” When Birdman oversaw the supergroup Rich Gang, Quan became featured on songs like “Lifestyle” with Young Thug, with whom he made the majority of his 2014 mixtapes.
