‘Delhi Crime’s Richie Mehta Teams with Imagine on ‘Boy From Andaman’

Richie Mehta, the creator of Netflix's 'Delhi Crime' and Prime Video's 'Poacher', is set to executive produce the upcoming film 'Boy From Andaman'.

The project marks Parinaaz Gal's directorial debut and is produced by Janice Chua for Imagine Entertainment and Harman Baweja for Baweja Studios India, alongside Los Angeles-based Rick Ambrose, Vancouver-based Bhaskar De and Mumbai-based Sharmila Pinheiro.

Based on an original idea by Manu Chopra, Jal and Chopra wrote the screenplay. The story follows Mohan, a Mumbai post office worker who discovers a letter addressed to “God” from a tsunami survivor in the Andaman Islands. Their unlikely friendship, forged through an exchange of letters, leads Mohan to travel to the Andaman Islands to help the boy. According to the producers' description, the film “deals with the profound themes of faith as experienced by two characters navigating two very different realities.”

Gal previously assisted Mehta on “Poacher” and “Delhi Crime.”

“I was deeply moved by Manu Chopra’s story when it was first introduced to me through Rick and Bhaskar,” said Chua, who is helming the project for Imagine Entertainment. “I am thrilled to be collaborating with the talented Richie Mehta and debutant director Parinaaz Jal to bring this powerful script to life.”

“When Janice Chua approached me about this story, I was immediately struck by its simplicity, power and beauty, and felt that through the collaboration of Imagine, Bhaskar, Rick, Parinaaz, Harman and myself, we could create something magical,” Mehta added. “I couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure and bring this powerful story to life.”

A veteran Hollywood producer and executive, Ambrose is a producer and marketing and communications leader at Vancouver-based law firm Remedios & Company.

“I am excited to be a part of such an ambitious project, ‘A Boy From Andaman’ – a story that is both poignant and inspiring. Working alongside such a talented team, including Richie Mehta, Janice Chua, Rick Ambrose and Bhaskar De, is a privilege,” said Baweja.

“The Boy is a story of hope and compassion that renews our faith in humanity, something that is often in short supply these days,” Ambrose Woody added.

Imagine Entertainment, founded by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, is planning Luca Guadagnino’s thriller “After the Hunt,” starring Julia Roberts. Baweja Studios is also planning several projects, including “Ikhwan: From Militant to Soldier” and “Captain India,” starring Kartik Aaryan.
