The Denzel Washington and Spike Lee duo is back on set for the fifth time, working on an adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s classic film High and Low under the banner of A24.

A recent post on A24’s X account captured the two cinema giants flashing five fingers, symbolizing their fifth project together. The image marks the start of principal photography, a mere two months after A24 revealed plans for the film.

This venture not only deepens their illustrious partnership but also promises to add a modern twist to the beloved narrative. High and Low is set to begin its cinematic journey with A24, before making its way to Apple TV+ for its streaming release.

Denzel Washington and Spike Lee’s collaboration has produced notable films like Malcolm X, Mo’ Better Blues, He Got Game, and Inside Man. These projects are known for their dynamic storytelling delivered with powerful performances and provocative narratives.

Their newest project, High and Low, promises to continue this tradition. This film is an English reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic, which tells the riveting tale of a shoe company executive in Yokohama caught in a high-stakes extortion crisis when his chauffeur’s son is mistakenly kidnapped instead of his own child. While it remains to be seen how closely the remake will adhere to the original’s storyline, the reimagining of such a narrative under Lee’s direction is sure to introduce fresh dimensions to the plot.
