Disneyland Workers Agree Contract, Avoiding Strike

About 14,000 employees at Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney and Disney hotels have agreed to new labor contracts, represented by a group of labor unions. The move avoids a strike at Disney parks and hotels.

The workers were represented by Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco and Grain Mills (BCTGM) Local 83; Service United Workers West (SEIU-USWW); Teamsters Local 495; and United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 324.

After months of negotiations, they voted to ratify new three-year contracts with Disney. The contracts at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure/Downtown Disney will go into effect once ratified.

“Today’s vote is a historic win for our cast members, who have stood strong against corporate power and remained united in the face of the company’s unlawful actions,” said Ellie Gonzalez, Disney California Adventure’s curator and negotiating committee member. “We won historic pay increases that will allow me to build a better future for the family I am raising. And for the first time, we won lifetime pay that recognizes our years of service to Disney and the critical role we play in making it one of the most profitable companies in the world. These victories would not have been possible without the strength that each and every cast member demonstrated throughout our negotiation process.”

Other key provisions include:
– The largest pay increase ever. Most staff members will receive $6.10 over three years,
– The minimum base pay rate is $24 in 2024 (or more for some classifications);
– A historic increase in the average age of adult cast members;
– Improve attendance and sick leave policies that give team members more opportunities to deal with personal issues without fear of discipline;
– New bonuses for team members.

Disneyland cast member contracts expire on June 16, 2024. Disney California Adventure and Downtown Disney cast member contracts expire on September 30, 2024.
