Reggaeton singer Nicky Jam has declared his support for Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election, but Trump was under the false impression that he was an “attractive” woman.
At a Trump rally in Las Vegas on Friday, the Republican presidential candidate endorsed Latin music star Nicky Jam: “You know Nicky? She’s hot!”
“Where's Nikki? Where's Nikki? Thank you, Nikki. It's great to have you here,” Trump continued, looking at the crowd.
When Nicky Jam, wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, came out of the crowd onto the stage and shook hands with Trump, Trump realized his mistake and said, “Look! Come here. I'm glad he got on stage.”
In his on-stage comments, Nicky Jam said: “It's an honor to meet you, Mr. President. People who come where I come from, they don't meet the president. So I'm lucky. We need you. We need you back, right? We need you to be the president.” Nicky Jam was born in Massachusetts and moved to Puerto Rico with his family as a child.
The Harris campaign pounced on Trump's mistake in a post on X, noting that the 43-year-old singer is a man. Nicky Jam's biggest hit is 2019's “X,” featuring J Balvin.
Other artists who have endorsed Trump include Jason Aldean, Kid Rock and Billy Ray Cyrus. Taylor Swift also endorsed Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris last week, joining other artists in her support including Ariana Grande, Cardi B, John Legend and Carole King.
After the protest, Nicky Jam laughed off Trump's gender confusion, sharing a photo of the two of them in an Instagram post, writing, “Nicky Jam la putra la pichuta” (roughly, “Nicky Jam hot woman and female boss”) followed by a series of 22 crying and laughing emojis.
