Marvel movie strangely disappears from new release schedule
Surprisingly, Blade still appears on Marvel's movie release schedule, but another project's date has been removed.
How Benedict Cumberbatch was destined to play Doctor Strange
In late April 2024, Scott Derrickson, Director Doctor StrangeDirector Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed how he was cast to play Stephen Strange. The director shed light on the meticulous process that ensured Cumberbatch took on the mantle of the enigmatic superhero in an interview with /Film.
Doctor Strange This was a major change for the MCU, introducing audiences to its mysterious dimensions—a bold move that mostly deviated from its cosmic narratives. According to Derrickson, while the film was designed as a standalone film, it inadvertently laid the groundwork for future multiverse stories, just as Iron Man It set the stage for the wider MCU.
I certainly didn't have my eyes on this particular goal, and how it would be used in the future.
Derrickson stressed that unlike many of his peers, he was fortunate to be able to direct a film without the pressure of aligning it too closely with pre-established MCU arcs, allowing for a more creative and focused narrative approach.
“But I was very fortunate that very few Marvel directors have been able to step forward and make an MCU movie that had no obligations to the MCU… There was nothing we were intentionally preparing for future movies. It was a standalone movie.”
As Robert Downey Jr. was originally set to play Tony Stark, Derrickson confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch was the perfect Stephen Strange. Derrickson said they also considered Joaquin Phoenix for the role after discovering that Cumberbatch was committed to another project. Derrickson had his heart set on Cumberbatch for the role, believing he was the perfect fit.
What happened, to be clear, is that we offered the film to Benedict. I wanted Benedict… I flew to London to try to convince him to do the film. In the end, the film was coming out in the summer, and Benedict had committed to doing Hamlet in the London theatre.
