Teezo Touchdown joins the musician on the new Scarlet 2 single
Doja Cat: Queen of trolling (but also of being real).
On Friday, Doja Cat released her single “Masc,” featuring Teezo Touchdown just in time for her headlining Coachella performance next week. The song was among the new tracks of Scarlet 2 Claude, the deluxe edition of her fourth studio album.
The lyrics hear Doja singing to her man and threatening him to get things together before she ends things: “Don’t you make me kick you out the house again/On your ass, I did have to get masculine.”
Teezo Touchdown seems to rap back at her during his verse as he goes from “Look at me, I’m packing my stuff” to “I’ll do anything if you stay.”
The rapper and singer teased the new single on Instagram earlier this week sharing a brief snippet of the track. Doja alluded to the Scarlet continuation back in February, when she shared a potential track list for Scarlet 2 that included songs such as “Acknowledge Me,” “Headhigh,” and “Urrrge!!!!”
In an interview on the Therapy Gecko podcast, the rapper revealed at the time that the extension would be titled S2: Claude Frollo, referencing the antagonist in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
“I feel like it connects to the story of Scarlet in some degree and if you look up his personality traits and who he is and his story, you’ll understand the whole connection,” she said. “There’s a control aspect — he just abuses his power and his control.”
“Claude Frollo doesn’t depict a single person in my life. It’s like a metaphor for the people that creatives endure on a daily basis,” she added.
The new music follows the release of Scarlet back in October, which featured song such as “Fuck the Girls,” “Agora Hills,” and “Paint the Town Red.”
