Dwight Yoakam, Post Malone Duet on ‘I Don’t Know How to Say Goodbye’

His first time Nearly a decade later, Dwight Yoakam is getting some help from a musician who wasn't even a country artist when his last album came out. “I Don't Know How to Say Goodbye (Bang Bang Boom Boom)” is the first single from Yoakam's upcoming album brighter daysThe new album features Nashville newcomer Post Malone, who released his first country album last month. Yoakam's full-length album is due out Nov. 15.

After Yoakam belts out lyrics about a failed relationship, Malone sings in his sweet voice, “I don't know how we lost our way, I don't know where these two hearts lost their way.” They join forces for a chorus, then sing it out loud. Bang Banga little Boom boomFortunately, this song isn't about any talking points related to the presidential election, but rather the sound of “how a broken heart keeps on beating.”

Yoakam wrote the song with Post Malone in mind. It's a fitting follow-up to Post Malone's surprise appearance at Yoakam's Los Angeles concert in July and their April collaboration on Stagecoach.

Yoakam recorded the album over the past three years. The artist, who was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019, wrote or co-wrote the songs on the album, aside from covers of Cake's “Bound Away” and the Carter Family's “Keep on the Sunny Side.”

The artist will be embarking on a tour later this month with support from Mavericks on select dates. Full details are on his website.
