Four-time Grammy nominee actress Elle King recently appeared on Bunnie XO's “Dumb Blonde” podcast, where she opened up about her relationship with her actor father, Rob SchneiderShe took the opportunity to talk about their turbulent relationship, and how it disagreed with his outspoken views on drag and the LGBTQ+ community after this year's Olympics opening ceremony.
King’s comments came after Schneider reacted to the Olympics opening ceremony, Variety reported. The ceremony featured an interpretation of Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper,” but instead of the usual image of Jesus and his disciples, the moment featured drag queens and people of color. In late July, Schneider spoke openly about his dislike of the imagery included in the French presentation, stating that he hoped “these Olympics will get the same audience as C-SPAN.”
“I regret to say to all the greatest athletes in the world, I wish you all the best, but I cannot watch an Olympic Games that disrespect Christianity and openly celebrate Satan.”

This particular moment proved to be one of the most divisive at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics in France — and there were many others. Schneider, however, was more outspoken than most in attendance, criticizing the ceremony as a “school board meeting.” He then went on to call the ceremony “inappropriate.” “Attack on Christianity” In another post on X. His views were controversial to many at the time, and Elle King later made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with her father or his comments in that context.
King and Schneider's relationship was fraught with tension for a very long time. King explained that they were not close as children, and that she did not communicate with him until later in life. In the podcast, she criticized his views and opinions on the Olympics, calling him a “very bad man.” “Not nice at all” She added that she did not agree with many things he said.

King didn't spend much time with Schneider as a child because of his constant workload. She added that if she made a mistake in a shot, or spoke during it, she would “getting into big trouble.”
King's weight and tattoos were other points of contention between them, something Schneider often found fault with. She spoke of being put in a weight-loss boot camp by her father at a young age, and of once getting into trouble after twisting her ankle because she “didn't lose any weight.”
“I actually started getting tattoos, and it was 108 degrees. So I had to wear sweaters because my dad was against tattoos or any form of self-expression.”
King does not plan to repair her relationship with her father, and does not want to be associated with him in any way. She continued, saying:
You may want someone to change very badly. You can't control anyone else's actions, and you can't control other people's feelings. All you can control is how you react and what you do with your feelings.
Schneider recently starred in Adam Sandler's 2023 animated film Leo On Netflix, in addition to his comedic work. Father and daughter journeywhich was also released in 2023.
